Past Events – 2012

In October 2012 was held the second yearly “Adventure Medicine” conference event. It was a two-track event spread across two days – a “Specialists” track and a “Non-specialists” track. The two tracks were on the 6th and 7th of October 2012, respectively.

Paweł Podsiadło, MD

Paweł Podsiadło – 47 years old doctor, specializing in emergency medicine. Climbed in the Tatra mountains, the Alps, Caucasus, the Himalayas, Karakorum. Took part in two expeditions of eight-thousanders. Climbed Gasherbrum-2 (8935 m.) in 2006. Organized two conferences for Mountain rescue in Poland. Works as a helicopter doctor in an Air ambulance service.

Francesco Coscia, MD

Born in Passignano Sul Trasimeno on September 15th 1960. 1988 – Graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Perugia. Specialist in internal medicine. Specialist in sports medicine. International Master of Mountain Medicine. Part time Professor at The University of Perugia. 2007 – Became the Director of the Medical Commission for the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC). 2009 – Became the Head of the Medical Commission of the Italian Federation of Sport Climbing. 1988 – 2005 – Member of the National Medical Commission for schools and young people. Worked as a member of a group of experts on anti-doping at The University of Perugia. (Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, General Pathology and Immunology Department 03/05/2002). Was the Medical Chief for the Climbing World Championship and the first World Championship of Paraclimbing in Arco di Trento in July 2011. Since 1992 has conducted research on physiology and specific physical preparation in the sporting environment.

Slavyan Stoilov, MD

Dr. Stoilov has graduated from the French language high school and later from the Medical University in Sofia. He has earned an Internal medicine and medical literature translator diplomas. During his career as a climber he has been on 3 of the Seven Summits and has participated in 23 international expeditions, in most of which as a doctor. He has visited more than 80 countries in 5 continents. A descendant of physicians, he is fluent in 4 languages, has 4 published books and a fifth one in the press. Dr. Stoilov is the camera-man and writer of 4 documentary films, the author of numerous publications in the periodicals, all the illustrations for which are taken from his personal archives, and has had several photography exhibitions of his own. He has been a frequent guest in publicist and popular science radio and TV shows.

Andrew Ivanov, MD

Dr. Ivanov has graduated from the Medical University in Sofia in 1988, specializing in Internal medicine and Cardiology. He has authored monographs on cardiovascular diseases and has numerous publications in the fields of Cardiology and Intensive care. He has translated from English to Bulgarian a major part of one of the leading international manuals of cardiology Braunwald’s Heart Disease, and is a co-author of Bulgaria’s “Manual of Internal Medicine”. Dr. Ivanov is Chief assistant at the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Medicine, Medical University of Sofia. He is currently working as a doctor at the ICU, CPID in Alexandrovska hospital in Sofia.

Lyubomir Mladenov, MD

Dr. Mladenov has graduated from the Medical University in Sofia, specializing in Internal medicine. For the past 11 years he has been teaching Sports medicine in the NSA. Being in contact with nature has always inspired him and given him energy. His passion for traveling has lead him to sailing, paraplanerism, climbing and alpinism. He has made unforgettable trips to Argentina, Chile, Pakistan, and Egypt. He is proud of taking part in Ivan Kozhuharov’s expedition to Mont Blanc in 2009. His personal achievements include successfully reaching the summits of Aconcagua, Ojos del Salado, Elbrus, Mont Blanc, Matterhorn. He has been the doctor of several Bulgarian alpinist expeditions, as well as of the national biathlon team. Dr. Mladenov has participated in different conferences and festivals. For him, photography is a natural continuation, closing the circle of science, sports and art.

Yana Boyanova, MD

Graduated from the Medical University in Sofia in 2003. Since then she has worked in the gastroenterology field. She has specialized hepatology on several internships in Paris and Clichy, France. She has participated in hepatology publications and a gastroenterology reference book. A big part of her free time she spends in nature, which gives her inspiration, calmness and clear thinking.

Alexey Zhalov

Автор на популярни, научни и художествени четива за пещерното дело и спелеологията (6 книги и повече от 250 публикации в България и в чужбина (Aлбания, Белгия, Великобритания, Италия, Испания, Русия, Турция, САЩ, , Украйна, Франция).
